Meeting Schedule
Hearings before the Charlotte County Code Enforcement Special Magistrate (“CESM”) occur on the first Wednesday of every month at 9 a.m. in Room 119, 18500 Murdock Circle, County Administration Center, Port Charlotte. The hearings are broadcast live on CC-TV, Comcast channel 20 in most of the County and Channel 97 in South County. The meetings are re-aired later in the week.
Roles and Responsibilities
The purpose of the CESM is to hear code cases presented by Code Officers of Charlotte County. The CESM hears cases concerning: high grass, outside storage or junk and other miscellaneous items, abandoned vehicles, parking of trailers, standard housing code violations, expired permit, no final inspections on permit, or failure to obtain permit. The CESM is responsible for disciplinary actions under the Charlotte County Zoning Code 3-9, International Property Maintenance Code and Commentary, and the Florida Building Codes.
The hearings are quasi-judicial, subject to the Florida Sunshine Law. The CESM must not discuss any matter unless such discussion occurs at a hearing advertised and open to the public.
